Flatpress Installation
After downloading the current Flatpress version package, it should be unpacked onto your local harddisk. Unpacking will produce a directory named “flatpress”, which will be the base for all following steps. In the following, the integration of a German language pack is described, in order to show the basic procedure. If you do not want to install a language pack, skip the following paragraph.
Integrating a German Language Pack
As a next step, the German language pack has to be downloaded from the Flatpress wiki. It can be found in the “language” section. The language pack also has to be unpacked, which will produce the following three directories:
- fp-interface
- fp-plugins
- setup
Copy the directories into the “flatpress” directory. If your computer asks you if you want to overwrite the existing files, confirm with “yes”. The language pack consists of additional files, that will not overwrite anything with the exception of the Readmore-Plugin. This plugin does not have a language file, thus the English original will be replaced with the German equivalent.
Proceeding
Your local Flatpress directory can now be transferred to your web space with an FTP software, e.g. Filezilla. After transfer, the user content directory's permissions have to be checked: the “fp-content” directory and all files inside this directory should have “777” permissions. Check this first before setting up your personal Flatpress blog.
Setup is normally done by entering the URL for your Flatpress blog into your browser, i.e. http://www.mydomain.com or http://www.mydomain.com/flatpress and consists of three steps:
- Welcome dialogue
- Enter user name, password, URL and e-mail address
- Provided, setup was successful, you are then asked whether you want to login or view your blog.
Translating Flatpress into German
If you included a language pack, you have to set the language accordingly within Flatpress options. For German, these are the recommended settings:
- Log in to your Flatpress installation
- Change to “Administration area”
- Select “Options” menu. There
- Set “Time should differ by” to “0”
- Change the “Default format for date” to “%A, %e. %B %Y”
- in the drop down field “Language”, select “Deutsch (DE)”
- Now you can save the settings.
Notes
After you completed these steps, you can work with Flatpress and write your own entries
Important Note: For security reasons, it is recommended to delete both the “Setup” directory and the file “setup.php” from your web space!
